Web site on the world of UK Asian business

A new Web site providing comprehensive coverage of the UK's Asian business and cultural resources has gone live on the British Library's Web site at: www.bl.uk/services/information/abambind.htmlBringing together a wide variety of resources, the site is a portal through which users can find information, saving time and effort. Many of the resources can be viewed directly online, or are available in the British Library's reading rooms or via local libraries.

Innovative new 3D page-turning technology on the Web

One of the rare notebooks belonging to Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) has been digitised using the British Library's new 3D Turning the Pages technology. A total of 28 pages have been digitised and can now be "virtually" turned and viewed online on the British Library's Web site. The Library originally developed the technology to produce the Turning the Pages Virtual Book. This offers museums and galleries the highest quality public-display system using the finest digitisation and animation techniques to bring valuable treasures to life. Virtual Book can be displayed and used on large plasma screens or computers.

The Turning the Pages (TTP) 3D system – developed with Armadillo Systems – allows organisations to display items on site, and enables whole books or corporate literature such as annual reports to be viewed. TTP 3D can also be made available to users via the Web or on CD-ROM. The Leonardo Notebook can be viewed on either broadband or the standard Internet connection.

Illuminated manuscripts from one of the finest collections in the world unveiled online

Unprecedented access to one of the world's richest collections of medieval and renaissance illuminated manuscripts is being created by the British Library by the launch of a digital catalogue. Expected to take between five and ten years to complete, the project will see all of the Library's 9,500 western illuminated manuscripts represented. Each manuscript will have an electronic description and will be illustrated by a selection of captioned images.
