The full‐text of the major UK quality newspapers — The Times and Sunday Times, The Guardian and The Independent and The Independent on Sunday — was published in CD‐ROM form in early 1991. The design of the three CD‐ROM products is very different. The differences are explored and illustrated in detail in this article. Each product has a number of novel, distinct features as well as features in common with the other two products.
