A Proposed Experiment in Automated Serials Accessioning

Loughborough University of Technology Library is exploring the possibility of automating accessions as part of the collaboration with BLCMP (Birmingham Libraries Co‐operative Mechanisation Project) on MASS (MARC‐based Automated Serials System). The automation of serials accessions was specifically excluded from the work reported in references 1 and 2 in order to allow time for the study of existing systems and arrive at new proposals. Until recently, the exploration has been purely theoretical, but a proposal for practical experimentation has now been formulated.
