SeamlessUK partner goes live
Medway Libraries' Web-based community information service About Medway provides Medway citizens, in the UK, with the ability to carry out a single search against a collection of information from over 600 organisations. Medway are partners in SeamlessUK, the New Opportunities Fund (NOF) project initiated by Essex County Council, designed to create easy access to local community information alongside national information providers. About Medway uses Fretwell-Downing Informatics (FDI) CPORTAL technology to integrate access to the different resources, to plug in SeamlessUK and to provide a configurable interface with the single search feature. Knowledge for Health information service launched
North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) has announced a new information service, Knowledge for Health, that will put local, NHS and international information into the hands of health practitioners to improve the quality of patient care. Knowledge for Health is powered by FDI's ZPORTAL information portal technology. The focus on "patient-centred delivery of the best possible health care and services" and the local need to replace the library management system coincided with the development of the "whole systems" vision of a new approach to the management and exploitation of knowledge resources. Initially, the service will integrate access to the following resources:
South West Region union catalogue.
Knowledge resources held on the Trust's intranet.
NBT patient leaflet database.
NHS Web resources.
National Electronic Library for Health (NELH).
NHS Direct Online.
Dialog DataStar.
By using ZPORTAL to power the service, North Bristol NHS Trust have had access to FDI's expertise in integrating access to information and have the benefit of ZPORTAL's ability to enable access to local and national information resources without the Trust having to maintain these data locally.
The LIDDAS vision becomes reality with FDI's VDX product
FDI has announced that the Local Interlending and Document Delivery Administration System (LIDDAS) vision of the Australian Vice Chancellors'Committee (AVCC) is now a reality with the latest release of FDI's VDX (Virtual Document exchange) software. The LIDDAS project was undertaken by the AVCC, and encompassed the provision of an open systems platform that enabled interconnectivity between individual systems to facilitate resource sharing between the participating university, national and state libraries. The VDX product was considered as a key component in the larger framework of "distributed resource-sharing strategies" being developed by Australian university libraries. In parallel projects the National Library of Australia and the National Library of New Zealand have both implemented National Interlending Utility Systems based on the VDX product from FDI. The LIDDAS systems and the National Library systems interoperate to provide a distributed resource-sharing infrastructure.
