Purpose

This study aims to conceptualize Disaster-Resilient Construction Project Lifecycle Management as a managerial perspective for integrating resilience principles across construction project lifecycle processes and examines its feasibility within the construction sector.

Design/methodology/approach

A two-stage systematic review of 80 peer-reviewed journal articles published after the adoption of the Sendai Framework was conducted. Bibliometric and qualitative analyses were used to classify the studies according to disaster phase and construction project lifecycle processes and to identify technological trends, methodologies and research gaps. This enabled the development of the Disaster-Resilient Construction Project Lifecycle Management Framework.

Findings

The findings indicate that disaster resilience research is concentrated on construction, design and planning, while procurement and demolition/recycling remain underrepresented. Thematic trends highlight growing interest in digitalization and integration, sustainability and governance in disaster resilience research.

Practical implications

The framework provides a structured basis for embedding resilience into construction project lifecycle decisions through legal, social, governance, technological and sustainability dimensions. It supports regulatory revisions, the integration of resilience criteria into procurement and construction, resilient structural system and material selection, digitalization, sustainable construction and circular recovery practices.

Originality/value

Building upon recent resilience-oriented construction research, this study conceptualizes Disaster-Resilient Construction Project Lifecycle Management as an integrative managerial perspective. The framework offers a lifecycle-oriented basis for embedding resilience across project processes and adapting strategies to different disaster contexts through regulatory, technological, managerial, social and sustainability dimensions.
