Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes are as follows: to analyze the challenges of business in the pre-start-up phase of an organic or herbal product in the emerging market; to evaluate the business idea and outline the parameters for feasibility analysis for a startup; and to formulate the basic structure of the business canvas for a startup.

Case overview/synopsis

Since 2022, Mahesh, an agricultural engineer, has been thinking of starting his venture. Soon, he noticed that there was a huge market for natural products, particularly selling neem fruit to companies trading in ayurvedic products. He also observed that a structured market chain was absent in his locality and, as such, in India. He started exploring the Indian neem market and the opportunities to gauge the market condition and the competition around it. After exploring, he decided to analyze how this business would perform in the market. Also, he was wondering if he could get into business without leaving his job. Is the market environment favorable for this product? How should he approach starting his venture? Was the venture feasible enough to leave the well-established job? He thought to prepare the business canvas, but he was clueless about how to go about it.
