The series continues with a brief review of new conventional hand‐held, and colour scanners, also ‘Frame Grabbers’ for capturing television images. A section about advances in processing speeds follows. Standards for image processing are summarised. The rest of the article is about scanning control software for microcomputer‐based image processing systems and some examples of halftone editing are given; progress and problems with ‘mixed‐mode’ systems are discussed.
