Digital computer simulation; Image processing ‐ Digital techniques.

The AP Professional Graphics CD‐ROM Library is an electronic version of six important reference books for the computer graphics programmer. These books are: 1) Glassner’s Graphics Gems; 2) Arvo’s Graphics Gems II; 3) Kirk’s Graphics Gems III; 4) Cohen/Wallace’s Radiosity and Realistic Image Synthesis; 5) Wexelblat’s Virtual Reality; and 6) Stevens’s Quick Reference to Computer Graphics Terms. Topics can be searched by keyword, author names, contributor names, and book table of contents. One page instructions are included for loading the CD on either DOS/Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX SUN OS. All of the C/C++ code from the books is included for easy implementation.

This product is marketed as a complete electronic graphics reference tool; and I would have to agree. Having access to these six books electronically is a wonderful reference tool for any computer graphics programmer to have. The only drawback to the electronic access is that searching can only be done on one book at a time. The search mechanism cannot search across the books. Having access to the source code is also extremely useful, allowing the user to download and use previously written computer files. The bookmark option helps to reference and archive important sections of text and source files. There is no user manual for this product, since it is only an electronic version of these six books. This is a very convenient CD to have if one is involved in image processing, computer graphics and programming, virtual reality research, and radiosity.
