ReportGallery.com is a compilation of the annual report documents for over 2,200 companies (as of August 2000). The site claims to be “the most complete and up‐to‐date listing of annual reports and related financial reports online today”.
This is an excellent resource for the business and investment researcher. From this one location, it is possible to collect extensive information about many publicly traded companies, as well as other information valuable to investors. For each company listed, the available information varies slightly, but for the most part almost all of the components for each listing are complete.
There is an alphabetical listing of all the companies included. In most cases, the name of the company serves as a link to that company’s official Web site. This alone is an invaluable resource for “one‐stop‐shopping” connections to over 2,200 company sites. The next link is a “snapshot” option that links to a “Wall Street Snapshot” provided by Zacks, a Chicago‐based investment firm. From there users have access to a variety of up‐to‐date financial information about the company selected.
At a quick glance, the table listing company names shows the ticker symbol for the company and where it is traded. From here, the site links to the appropriate exchange (New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, American Stock Exchange, and the OTC Bulletin Board). The links to the exchange sites provide the current stock price, number of shares traded, volume of shares outstanding, and other pertinent financial details. There are also links to SEC filings and to news stories about the company. The SEC filings link goes to a results page in EDGAR, thus eliminating the need to search that database separately for company filings. The link to NASDAQ provides the current trading price based on the last sale, the day’s high and low, volume traded, and links to company news, analysis information, filings, and extended trading information.
The next link is the company’s annual report. For some companies, this links to the most recent annual report, but in other cases it’s possible to view several years’ worth of information. Here it’s possible to view and print the report, which facilitates searching for specific information within each of them. A random check found a few dead links as well as some “Annual Report” links which instead led to the main page of the company’s Web site. However, for most of those checked, the link went to either the report itself or to a selection of reports to either view online or the report in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format.
The structure of the Annual Report Gallery site is somewhat cumbersome because of its use of frames. There are some good navigational tools provided, though, that allow for constant access to the alphabetical list of reports, as well as links to services and contacts for the provider of the site. However, the advertising for business magazines is annoying at times, and I found myself accidentally exiting the site entirely when I was trying to avoid the advertising links.
Overall, however, this is a rich resource of market analysis information compiled at one site. The beauty of this directory is the organizational structure given to these business resources. Company sites and publications, stock exchange information, and SEC filings are the basis for a good corporate analysis, and the Annual Report Gallery provides easy access to all of these resources.
