Science Navigator 4.0 is an updated version of McGraw‐Hill’s state‐of‐the‐art electronic reference tool for education, the scientific professions, and for general research. It contains over 8,000 articles from the latest edition of the McGraw‐Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Science & Technology (4th ed.), all 105,000 terms from the Dictionary of Scientific & Technical Terms (5th ed.), plus biographical sketches of 250 of the world’s top scientists and engineers. A more powerful search and retrieval software has been added, as well as improved and customizable graphical interfaces.
With this version, the reader can access 242 new articles and graphic images; browse articles by author, 30 subject areas, or almost 100 sub‐topics; perform complex Boolean searches; view search results in the paragraphs in which they appear; easily research any topic in all the reference sources; bookmark specific passages within articles; and easily trace steps using the new history feature. Subject areas range from Acoustics to Zoology. The CD includes an extensive user’s guide. It represents over 75 major fields of science and technology.
Science Navigator is available for both PC and Mac environments. It is an essential tool for anyone in the sciences and technology. It contains two definitive reference sources in these subject areas, as well as biographical sketches. The customizable graphical interfaces allow users to arrange the product into a personal database of information and retrieval. As a network reference, it is highly useful for secondary to college‐age students, as well as company intranets. As a single‐user version, it gives scientists and engineers access to these reference products from their own workstations. It also provides them with features to redesign the database according to their own needs.
