Boost Your IQ is based on the book How to Boost Your IQ by John Bremner. The introduction provides a general overview of IQ testing, explains what to expect from following the step‐by‐step method, and relates the true story of the author from hopeless underachiever to scholar and Mensa member. The user then takes the first of two IQ tests, to measure his/her current IQ. After taking the test, the user is then led through six intelligence‐boosting sessions:

  • 1.

1Preparing for test and speed reading,

  • 2.

    2Verbal and linguistic abilities,

  • 3.

    3Numerical abilities,

  • 4.

    4Visual‐spatial abilities,

  • 5.

    5Principles of logic, and

  • 6.

    6General knowledge.

The user then takes the second IQ test as a definitive measure of success in boosting IQ. Although the results of this method may vary from person to person, the maker of the product offers a money back “higher score guarantee” that the product will improve the user’s measured IQ. The CD requires an IBM PC‐compatible computer with Windows 3.1 or higher, 8 MB RAM, Super VGA monitor and adapter, double‐speed CD‐ROM drive or better, sound card, and mouse. Free technical support, free disc replacement, and special discounts are given to users who send in the product registration information.

This CD was highly informative and enjoyable. The video and sound elements make it a truly interactive experience. While taking the first test, a time countdown of 45 minutes is displayed for the user. I found the test challenging and rather difficult. The six intelligence‐boosting sessions are extremely easy to follow and really challenge the user to think spatially, visually, verbally, linguistically, numerically, and logically. After all of this activity, I found the second IQ test to be more understandable; and I did a much better job of improving my IQ score. This is an excellent product for high school and adult learners who wish to find out what their IQ is, how to improve it, and how to learn concepts and ideas in the computer environment.
