Russian Scientific News (RSN) is a compilation of four databases:

  • 1.

    1Current Titles and Abstracts, a bibliographic multidisciplinary database containing tables of contents of about 300 Russian‐language journals published since 1991;

  • 2.

    2Russian Periodicals Bibliography, a bibliographic database that contains about 3,000 Russian‐language journals and periodicals published in Russia and other countries of the former USSR since 1986, in all branches of knowledge;

  • 3.

    3Russia and CIS Libraries, a unique directory of about 3,000 libraries of Russia and other former USSR countries; and

  • 4.

    4Russia and CIS R&D Organizations, a directory of about 2,000 research organizations located in Russia and other former USSR countries.

A quick reference brochure is included with the product. RSN runs off the SilverPlatter Software Resource CD included with the product, which includes a number of software releases (ERL, MacSPIRS, NEC‐SPIRS, PC‐SPIRS, UNIX‐SPIRS, WinSPIRS, and WebSPIRS, along with their user manuals). Each database has its own search and acronym terms. Boolean searching is available in all the databases.

This is an excellent resource for anyone working in the science and technology areas, as it combines all of the important Russian scientific journals into one easy‐to‐use database. Having worked at NASA‐JSC previously, I can say that this resource would be heavily favored by researchers and scientists there for its coverage and completeness. I know of no other resource that covers current periodicals in Russian science and technology as thoroughly as this product.
