‘DRAGON’ ‘The Dragon Reactor Experiment at Winfrith, Dorset was made “critical” for the first time early on 23rd August, thus becoming the first high temperature helium‐cooled graphite‐moderated reactor in the world to reach this stage.’ This recent announcement, seemingly so simple, comes only after years of research and development ranging over twelve European countries, and the story of the experiment is the subject of the film Dragon (col, 48 min). This traces the history of the project from its beginnings five years ago up to the present day.
