High-tech teaching centres unveiled

Keywords: Learning, Resources, United Kingdom

High-technology learning centres equipped with the latest communication and information technologies are set to break the mould of the traditional classroom in inner cities.

The first 32 of 80 city learning centres have been unveiled by schools standards minister Estelle Morris. They will use modern computers and software to develop IT resources to be used by clusters of local schools.

London will have 11 centres, Birmingham six, and there will be two each in Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool, Knowsley, Sheffield, Rotherham, Manchester and Salford.

They will eventually be based in schools and serve surrounding schools as well. Their computer suites will also be available for use by the wider community.
