Leonardo: 3,000 Europeans get training abroad

Some 3,000 Europeans from the 15 EU member states, plus Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, will benefit from a period of training abroad this year under the EU Leonardo programme. The placements include periods of professional training and work experience varying from three weeks to a year, and international exchanges. Participants may qualify for the European training passport, the Europass. The package costs around 59 million euros.
The candidate countries for EU membership have now joined Leonardo,increasing the number of participating countries to 30 and the budget to around 69.5 million euros. Between 2000-06, around 250,000 people should benefit from international placements under Leonardo.
