Scholarship programme targets Chinese students

Three to ten-month scholarships for research, post-university courses and advanced training in natural sciences, management, law, social sciences and European studies are to be financed for around 2,000 Chinese students under a 32 million euro scholarship programme.

The programme, signed by External Relations Commissioner, Chris Patten, and Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, Shi Guansheng, will give the young people the chance to study in Europe.

The experience they will take home will go a long way towards creating the mutual understanding which is necessary if Europe's relationship with China is to flourish.
