An Internet-enabled "virtual college" of e-learning materials has been developed, based around Key Skills 2000. East Midlands Further Education Council provided the academic input, helped to accredit the content and ensured that the site, at direct-ed.com, will equip students to achieve accredited qualifications. TQ Education and Training designed, developed, published and maintains the site. The virtual college capitalizes on the interest of post-16s in videos, gaming and the Internet. It offers fast, Web-based material, brought to life with sound and animation. Carl Gibson, of direct-ed.com, said: "Employers see key skills as essential in modern apprenticeships and government-funded programmes. Education institutions use key skills in their programmes. Key-skills units are ideally suited to e-learning. They develop and recognize individual abilities, helping people to learn and apply skills in their daily lives."
