Anglo-French university will open in September

The University of the Transmanche, the first UK-French university, is currently putting the finishing touches to its list of courses, ready for the first intake of students in September. The university brings together three Lille universities and the University of the Littoral in France with the University of Kent, in England. The institution will initially offer Master’s degrees in health and medical sciences and ethics, as well as European law and international commerce. The university will later expand into undergraduate programmes, lifelong learning and professional development.

David Melville, University of Kent vice-chancellor, said: “The Transmanche University is the first of its kind. We are creating a real trans-frontier higher-education institution.” The university will be jointly funded by education departments in France and Britain as part of a 2 million education agreement signed between UK premier Tony Blair and French president Jacques Chirac last year.
