There has been a tendency during the last few years for pupils at secondary modern schools to make a start on work normally done at technical college. The introduction of the first stages of senior work at secondary modern level prepares pupils for the college type of work and eases the transition from school to part‐time day release. In some cases arrangements can be made with the local technical college to exempt students from the first year of a trade course leading to a City and Guilds Certificate.
