Sixty million people are involved in education in The United States: a figure that represents over 30 per cent of the population and includes a pupil/student body of 57 million. By 1975 this last group is likely to total 61 million on its own, with 52 million in elementary and secondary schools and 9 million in college. Not to mention a pre‐school enrolment that is predicted to reach 12 million by 1980, from a meagre one million in 1965. Such numbers are thrown into shocking perspective when set against a student drop‐out pool of 64 million. Though some of these are at present being reintroduced into the system through colleges such as the Washington Technical Institute: a land‐grant college providing a second chance for students over 18.
