Education and partisan politics

‘If only education could be taken out of politics’, people say. It is an apparently widespread feeling and a sentiment that one hears expressed by teachers and parents alike. In fact, most people probably feel that education ought to be insulated to a greater extent than some other topics from the political struggle. But what exactly is meant by ‘taking education out of politics’?
