The essential functions of management are to plan and control the company's activities and to do this management requires the right information, in the right place, at the right time. A British Institute of Management survey of management information practices in nearly 260 companies concludes that, broadly speaking, the information reports prepared do conform with management requirements. However, this was not true of all the companies in the sample; nor do the relevant reports always reach the right people.
