In our sophisticated technological age, educational qualifications abound: technical, commercial, academic, occupational, and so forth, tending to increase by type and number in proportion to the rate of increase of economic complexity and the greater degree of labour specialisation which accompanies it. One hundred years ago they were far fewer in number because the need for them was less than it is today. In one hundred years time they will probably be greater still.
