The Technician Education Council hopes to make an important contribution towards the Government's recently expressed aim of ‘improving the nation's industrial capability’. TEC's main job is to create a unified system of technician education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; it is an enormous field with up to 300,000 students in more than 500 colleges working for nearly 300 separate awards. The level of courses is from 16+ to Higher National Diploma, the very wide range covering not only engineering, science and construction, but extending into fields such as agriculture, catering, printing, quantity surveying and textiles.
