Central American visit … 2. Nicaragua

It is perhaps inevitable that the British people hear about distant places like Nicaragua only when something spectacular happens there. During the last three years the papers and news bulletins have carried accounts only of the disastrous earthquake of December, 1972, and the kidnapping of diplomats by terrorists in December, 1974. Probably only a minority paid much attention, a few more wondered where on earth Nicaragua was, and most people merely thanked heaven that the place was somewhere far enough away not to worry about.
