A new domestic science centre, the most modern and comprehensively equipped at any school in the country, has been opened at Carmel College, Mongewell Park, Wallingford, Oxon, for which kitchen specialists Beekay Bauknecht have donated all the equipment. It contains a large range of the most up‐to‐date cookers, dishwashers, washing machines and other sophisticated electrical appliances, and there is no doubt that its facilities are unmatched by any other domestic science teaching unit of its kind. The centre will be used by boys as well as girls at the school, aged between 11 and 18. Although Carmel College is predominantly a boarding school, it also takes a good number of day pupils from within a wide radius — Reading, Newbury and Oxford — and they, too, will naturally be among the students making use of the new kitchen centre.
