CCETSW Paper 9:4 — The Certificate in Social Service — A Progress Report to the Council from the Staff is the first detailed report on the development of CSS training from its inception in 1975 to the end of 1978. The authors — a CCETSW central office staff group — suggest that the report aims to provide information to enable the Council to examine how policies embodied in CSS training are working out, to consider whether changes need to be introduced….and to provide data to assist in the process of clarifying the relationship between the CSS training and the Council's other training programmes. They also suggest that the report might help the joint management committees of CSS schemes to review their experience in comparison with others, and that the report might be of interest to those who are actively concerned about future policies for manpower and training in the personal social services. They hope that their report might also be of interest to those in other fields of education and training who may wish to consider the wider relevance of some of the innovative features of CSS training.
