For a number of years, the Department of Industry has taken a close interest in the supply of well‐qualified technological manpower to manufacturing industry. Recognising that a major part is played by the education system in developing these people, the Department has helped to promote closer co‐operation between industry and education. Between 1975 and 1978 it sponsored a committee on Project: Engineers and Technologists for Tomorrow (PETT) whose membership covered over 40 organisations. PETT did valuable work with the Department in helping to stimulate interest in industrial careers and in engineering, technology and science subjects, courses and qualifications.
