All second‐year engineering students at Singapore Polytechnic will have to undergo a course study in computing from the next academic year to familiarise themselves with equipment, basic language and applications of computers. The course will be non‐examinable, and some 2,100 students will be affected. They will receive 30 hours of practice. A computer and 22 terminals costing about £125,000 are to be provided for the work. In due course, it is planned to increase the hours of tuition to 60 and the number of terminals to 63.
