Walking the corridors of the institutions of the EEC can be a multi‐lingual experience. When buying a newspaper or meeting someone for the first time in the Brussels headquarters, French tends to be the preferred working language. When a Dane speaks to a Dutchman, they will probably use English; but when a Spaniard greets a Greek what lingua franca will they decide upon?
