Business Communications — Certificate Part I (The May 1985 ABE Supplement gives details of the revised syllabus for December 1985). The results of the December 1984 examination offer no grounds for satisfaction. All too frequently candidates' poor command of English was manifest in failure to understand the question or in the sheer unintelligibility of the reply. Many candidates showed themselves incapable of communicating by visual means. It is known that inadequate communication skills are adversely affecting students' ability to answer other ABE examination papers, and examiners feel strongly that colleges must do more in preparing candidates to be able to express themselves.
