Solving the IT skills shortage

In recent years companies who continue to think in terms of old technology have fallen by the wayside, and lengthened the dole‐queues, either through lack of changes or because of fear of change. Technological change is not as bad as it is sometimes painted. True, in manufacturing industry we now employ fewer production workers; but then automation and robots on the production line call for more technicians and better maintenance — in other words more occupation of a high‐tech nature, not fewer jobs. Similarly in the service sector, we see fewer clerks and penpushers; but they have been replaced by highly‐skilled keyboard personnel: computer operators and technicians. Again new occupations, not fewer jobs.
