A business letter has two objectives. One is to convey a message which furthers the firm's interests; the other is to do so in such a way as to leave a good impression on the recipient, even if it gives him bad news. Every letter is a public relations action; it can make an appreciable difference, for better or worse, to a company's image. Much therefore depends on how it is written and presented.
