The Lord Mayor of London, Sir Allan Davis, Guest of Honour at a luncheon held on Royal Wedding Day hosted by Chevron Petroleum (UK) Limited, presented prizes worth £1,300 to the winners of this year's Young Enterprise National Examination. He congratulated the winners and praised their knowledge of business which will be of great value to them, their future employers and the country. He stressed that the quality of life depends on its wealth‐creating ability, and in Britain's case that means the success of British industry in all its various guises. The examination, which is set by Mid‐Kent College of Higher and Further Education, Maidstone, was open to all teenagers involved in Young Enterprise, an organisation founded in 1962 by Sir Walter Salomon (who was present at the luncheon), to offer young people of school‐leaving age a practical introduction to the world of industry and commerce by allowing them to form companies for one academic year, producing and selling products. Some 17,000 young people participated this year and over 7,200 volunteered to test their newly‐acquired business skills by taking the written examination.
