The Institute of Youth Employment Officers. Some eight hundred people throughout the United Kingdom are members of the new Institute of Youth Employment Officers formed by the fusion of the National Association of Youth Employment Officers and the Youth Employment Staffs Guild. Mr John Hare, Minister of Labour, inaugurated the Institute at Birmingham on 24th April, and instilled its first President, Mr Richard Jenks, of Liverpool. The President's first address included this statement of aims: “Our aims ana objects are to improve the standard of qualifications ana to further the training of officers in our Service; to develop the techniques of our profession; and to work for better economic conditions for our members. But all these aims have one purpose of which we must never lose sight — the provision of the most efficient, sympathetic and effective service that we can to the young people who are our primary concern”.
