Both the Business and Technician Education Council (BTEC) and the National Council for Vocational Qualifications (NCVQ) have been established by the government with different roles to work in the complementary fields of work‐related education and training. The NCVQ dates from September 1986, when the government asked it to undertake reforms in the entire system of vocational qualifications. Its remit may be summarised as:
