One may expect a teacher to teach and a Youth Employment Officer or Careers master to guide and advise. But, as the author shows, an ETO in industry may spend little or none of his time educating or training. This new series should be of value to the many people entering work in or connected with industrial training and education. It may also be informative to ‘eavesdroppers’ from education or guidance who wonder just what an industrial training officer's work does involve. The author's job is in the Education and Training department of one of the nationalised industries. In her next article she will be considering recruitment; here it is a question of the information he needs before he can fulfil his function
