This is a highly accessible and practical guide to writing a curriculum vitae (CV). This fourth edition has been extensively updated with new sample layouts and templates. Early chapters cover the basic groundwork, addressing issues such as length, what should be included/excluded and presentation. This then makes way for a longish section devoted to guidelines and examples. The range of illustrations are extensive and include school leaver, graduate, someone with many jobs, career change, women returner, after redundancy. Together with the basic principles of good practice, these examples indicate how a CV can vary significantly and how it can be “tuned” to suit the circumstances – of both author and vacancy. It demonstrates how different CVs can perform better at different levels and types of work There is also a useful section which recognises that greater use is being made by employers of electronic (“e”) recruitment and addresses the implications of this in relation to the CV. The book is unashamadely a “do's and don'ts” guide. However, in the main, it avoids being simplistic and as such it is likely to be of benefit to job seekers of all ages and in all aspects of the labour market.
