General studies and the technologist

There are two chief sources of opposition to General Studies courses, one is the students themselves who feel that they are an unnecessary appendage on to their already over‐crowded timetable, the other is the lecturers of other departments who think that general studies destroy the morale and single‐minded‐ness of a vocationally orientated student whose work and self‐discipline are likely to suffer from exposure to new ideas.
