The drift from the schools Available to Purchase

Of recent years a great deal of publicity has been given to certain large movements of teaching staff in Britain. The departure of university teachers to the United States: the shortage of mathematicians: the difficulties that industrial towns have in making appointments up to their establishments: all these issues have been much canvassed. Here is considered a movement that has attracted little attention to date, but may have greater long‐term effects than any of the above, i.e. the tendency of well‐qualified teachers to leave schools for posts in higher and further education, especially in technical colleges. The reasons for this movement, and its wider implications, are well worth study.
