In 1989, British subsidiary Hoechst UK introduced five scholarship awards to school leavers, to attend the two‐year vocational training course at Hoechst AG in Germany. A brief description of the training scheme is included, which follows the West German vocational training scheme (Industriekaufmann) and combines learning at a State vocational training school with practical work experience in Hoechst. Three of the participants describe their reactions.
