At Hamilton House on 11 July, Sir Ronald Gould fired the first shot in what could be the biggest clash yet on the teaching front. From a date early in September, some 8000 of the National Union of Teachers' 275 000 members will, in 18 areas, refuse to undertake school meals duties and/or refuse to work with unqualified staff that were appointed after 5 June last.
