Contest for young scientists

Improving the mobility of the visually impaired; developing a scanner to produce three-dimensional images;and solving the problem of paints yellowing in the dark; each of these projects was a top prizewinner in the tenth EU Young Scientists' contest.

The three projects were the work of scientists from Austria, Hungary and Britain respectively. None of the participants was older than 20. Each won 5,000 ecus. Three runners-up each received 3,000 ecus.
