Two top hairdressers have announced that they will pay a "signing on" premium of £500 to each new apprentice.
Hampshire-based Trevor Mitchell and John Phelps, of Gloucester, will pay the money 15 months after the start of the apprenticeship, in a move to encourage more students to take up hairdressing.
They are also calling for the apprenticeship with hairdressers to be cut from three to two years, in line with the length of the national vocational qualification course run by colleges across the country.
