Dyslexia across cultures

European Children in Crisis has produced a multimedia training package entitled "Language shock: dyslexia across cultures". The pack, produced with financial help from the EU Socrates programme, aims to make parents and teachers more aware of the problem of dyslexia and of its warning signs. The authors claim that dyslexia is more easily overlooked among children who move from one country to another and have to cope with new languages, school systems and cultures. Statistics from the European Dyslexia Association reveal that 37 million people - 10 per cent of the population - are dyslexic. Some 4 per cent are severely dyslexic. Famous sufferers include Einstein, Winston Churchill,Flaubert and Leonardo da Vinci.
