Management education under microscope
Keywords Management development, Business education
The Government has launched an independent body to ensure the UK can develop the managers and leaders of the future to match the best in the world. The Council for Excellence in Management and Leadership, established by the Secretary of State for Education and Employment and the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, will identify gaps and barriers that inhibit the development of excellent managers and leaders. It will consider business-school provision for smaller firms and the capacity to teach entrepreneurial skills, and how to improve the quality of business-school graduates. The council will also investigate how the stock and quality of managers and leaders in the public and private sectors can be measured, and assess future challenges, including the implications of e-business. Thought will also be given to establishing a Research Council for management education.
