A European forum is examining ways of making it easier for vocational qualifications to be transferred from one EU member state to another. The forum includes representatives of national governments, the trade unions, employer organizations, the European Commission and the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop). The forum, established in 1998,has recommended that each EU member state should establish a system to ensure that national certificates are translated into at least one other EU language,and that each member state should designate a national reference centre responsible for providing information on national vocational qualifications. The centre would be a national partner in a European network of reference centres. The forum also believes that clear and concise descriptions of all national qualification systems should be available, as well as translation services supported at EU level.
