Hero makes its debutKeywords:Higher education, Information resources management

Higher education funding and research bodies are collaborating to promote British higher education to domestic and international audiences through Hero,an Internet site with links to 844 other higher education sites. Speaking at the launch of Hero, Barry Sheerman, House of Commons education select committee chairman, commented: "Hero is a great effort by the higher-education sector,working together to provide a modern, easy research tool for everyone seeking information on higher education courses, colleges, research and funding."

Hero, on www.hero.ac.uk, seeks to provide easy access to information for prospective students, researchers and business. Chief Executive Christopher Harris said: "We believe that this site will improve access for everyone to higher education. It is part of a wider drive by universities and colleges to give people from all backgrounds equal opportunity to learn about UK higher education, and what it has to offer."
