Helsinki University develops learning flexibilityKeywords: Learning, Flexibility

Helsinki University is working towards realizing a vision of flexible learning in which, for example, a student could be on holiday in the Finnish lakes and gain access to a lecture videoconference on integrated digital interactive television. ICL Invia, the Nordic subsidiary of e-business services company ICL, has signed a two-year contract with the university to facilitate access to information and learning services from a range of mobile terminals. They will provide services for flexible studying, particularly for the university's distance learning students, and help to diversify the way that teaching material is produced. Different types of information will be targeted at different devices. For example, lecture dates and venues could be accessed using a personal computer, while lecture videoconferences would be available by integrated digital interactive television.
