UK universities train Romanias young professionals
The EU-funded young professionals scheme for Romania aims to encourage young people with foreign-language skills to develop or take up a career in the Romanian civil service. It provides the training and experience that would help to accelerate their promotion to the higher levels of the service. Around 100 graduates have been placed on relevant courses in Western Europe. Half of them were placed at British universities in 2003. The British Council runs the scheme as lead contractor of a consortium comprising the French Ecole Nationale d’Administration,the Spanish Instituto Nacional de Administracion Publica and the Dutch European Institute of Public Administration. The Deutscher Akademischer Autausch Dienst,in Germany, is a sub-contractor.
Seven of the young people have joined the University of Bradford’s MA in European Integration. Course director Roberto Espindola said:
The Romanian students are highly motivated, with clear potential as high-flyers. They have integrated well into the course, making positive contributions.
